My Current Obsessions
Hellooo, party people! Last week on my Instagram, I asked my followers to pick this week’s blog posts, and you all picked well!!
The most popular option for today’s post was My Current Obsessions, so that’s what we’re doing! I’ll be sharing everything from my favorite songs, playlists, podcasts, shows, foods, and more. Some of my current obsessions will be linked so you can treat yourself to something nice. (:
Without further ado, let’s get started…
My Current Obsessions
songs
My favorite songs right now are Slow Motion by Trey Songz, You And I by LEON, and Lease On Life by Andy Grammer!
This is kind of embarassing, but another one of my favorite songs (even though it’s only 9 seconds long) is the MiseryxCPR remix on TikTok.
playlists
I have been absolutely looooving Spotify’s Mood Booster playlist! Nick showed it to me, and it’s near perfect.
podcasts
One of my long-time favorite podcasts has recently become basically the only podcast I listen to, and that’s What We Said!
This show is geared mostly toward young women, but there’s definitely something for everyone! Nick will listen and get sucked into the episodes when I have them on, so it has his stamp of approval.
There are tons of different kinds of episodes, too, which is part of why I really love it! There are advice columns, story episodes (they read crazy stories sent into them), interviews, and so much more!
If you’re in a podcast rut or are just looking to check out something new, be sure to go listen to What We Said.
shows
The two most recent shows I’ve watched (and already finished) are Twentysomethings: Austin and Cheer. Both were sooo good!
Twentysomethings is all about a group of, you guessed it, twentysomethings who move to Austin to see if they would want to move there permanently. It’s an interesting take on reality TV because there are no rules, it doesn’t seem fake, and each person has their own life going on outside of the show that’s not often shown.
They’re all trying to find jobs, explore relationships, and learn more about themselves while also being recorded, interviewed, and participating in group activities for the show. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should!
Cheer… where do I even start?! I watched the first season of this show during my senior year of high school and was obsessed, so when I find out they had released another season, I watched all nine episodes in just a few days.
If you haven’t seen this show, what are you doing?! This show is all about a community college competitive cheer team in Texas.
The first season blew up, and everyone fell in love with the show and everyone on it. But the second season shows the darker side of all that sudden fame, what’s happened with some of the team members, and how the team coped with the sudden end to their 2020 season due to COVID.
This new season also shows a lot more of their rival down the road compared to the first season. You learn about both teams and everything they’ve been through that toward the end, you’re kind of left wondering who you should root for in the big national championship.
foods
My current food obsession is definitely air-fried diced potatoes… I probably eat them at least four times a week.
If you want to try them, all you have to do is dice a few potatoes (we’ve found that two potatoes is just right for one person, but three is better for two people), put them in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil, and then cover with garlic salt and salt (or any other seasoning you like) as you mix it all up.
I’ve also been craving puppy chow (aka muddy buddies), but I haven’t made them. 🙁 If you want the recipe, go check out my holiday recipes post!
everyday items
One of my current obsessions: everyday items edition is the jade face roller I got for Christmas. When I use it, I just feel so relaxed and pampered. If you don’t have one yet, I definitely recommend you go buy one!
I’ve also been loving getting all cozy in my pajamas and slippers every night. I have cross band slippers, and I am OBSESSED. They’re my favorite things ever!
I also just bought a plant from Walmart, and I love her already. She brightens up my desk area so much, and I just want to stare at her 24/7.
And last but certainly not least, I’ve been using our new Bluetooth speaker that we got as a Christmas present. It’s SO AMAZING to be able to listen to music and podcasts in our apartment without carrying our phones all around with us or wearing our earbuds. Absolute life-changer. (;
books
I’ve been on a very lucky book streak lately… all the books I’ve been reading are AMAZING.
Unwell Women by Elinor Cleghorn is all about how medicine has marginalized women from the very beginning. It discusses how some beliefs that are still present today came to be, why health issues that primarily affect women seem to be more difficult to diagnose, and the racism and sexism that’s present in today’s medical system.
I haven’t finished reading League of Denial by Mark Fainaru-Wada and Steve Fainaru yet, but so far it has discussed how the NFL’s concussion problem came to be, how severe the problem really was, and all the ways in which the NFL swept this issue under the rug for years.
I also haven’t finished Being Mortal by Atul Gawande yet, as I’m reading it for a class, but I can’t get enough of this book. The author brings to light the way Western medicine has changed how we care for the elderly and how this affects them. Unfortunately, as you’ll learn fairly quickly in this book, the ways we treat the elderly once we rule them unable to care for themselves may be doing more harm than good.
workouts
My favorite workouts lately have been strength-based as well as running. I’m trying out a free trial of a strength-training program, and I really love it so far! Nick has been scheduling my runs this week because he’s helping me get ready for a half-marathon that’s in less than 3 weeks… eek.
clothing items
My current obsessions: clothing edition is none other than my @yourlocalpublichealthstudents merch, obviously!! So comfy, so cute, so perfect. To buy yours, go visit our Bonfire store!
