Make the Most of Your Winter Workouts
oh, the weather outside is frightful…
But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good workout in!
I know many of us probably prefer to get our movement in outdoors while we breathe in that warm air and the sunshine hits our face, but for the next few months, that’s probably not happening for most of us.
Luckily, winter workouts can still be super fun, and there are plenty of movement options to choose from during this time of year!
make the most of your winter workouts
bundle up
If you’re brave enough to face the cold and workout outside, bundle up! Grab all the layers you can (the more, the better), and head out the door! Hopefully you’re lucky enough to see a little bit of sunshine.
Just be careful if it’s icy, because that could go south pretty quick. (;
join a fitness class
A great way to explore new things AND get your workout in away from the cold is to join a fitness class!
Check out your local gym(s) to see what they’re offering around this time of year, how much it costs, and anything else that might affect your decision.
They’re likely to have more people joining around this time because of the weather and new year, so hopefully there will be plenty of people there to make it more fun!
Workout YouTube videos, apps, and social media posts are another great and easy way to make the most of your winter workouts and get some movement in!
I wrote a post covering my favorite at-home workouts from your phone – and they all cost NOTHING. Go check that out for more information and my personal recommendations for workouts straight from your phone.
try a new indoor form of exercise
Last winter, I tried a new form of indoor exercise: swimming. It was challenging and intimidating, but it was SO MUCH FUN!
You never know how enjoyable something may be if you never try it out, so I would strongly encourage you to try a new form of exercise every once in a while.
There are plenty of new, fun options to choose from – whether you solely workout from home, hit up the gym every day, or are an outdoor enthusiast all the way.
This can be a great way to make the most of your winter workouts, and, who knows, you might find a new favorite way to exercise?!
choose a winter-only activity
Just like there are activities that are really only available in the summer, there are forms of exercise that you can only do during the cold, windy months of winter.
Skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating… all of these super fun activities are easiest to access during the winter, so take advantage of that!
sweat at home
One of my favorite ways to get a great sweat session and make the most of your winter workouts is to do an at-home workout. I feel like working out in the comfort of your own home is so underrated.
Again, there are tons of at-home workout options online, but one way I like to spice up my home workouts is by creating a list of all my absolute FAVORITE exercises and then going through and doing the ones that target the muscles I’m looking to work that day.
For example, if I’m looking to do an at-home leg day, I’ll look at the exercises on my list that target my legs… and I’ll do ’em! For EXTRA spice, mix in a lil cardio (jump squats, jumping jacks, etc.) and really feel that burn!
Thanks for reading all about how to make the most of your winter workouts… let me know if you try any of these workouts and how it went! (:
